JILLIAN BOYD BOWIE

Jillian is a Torres Strait Islander woman from the Samsep and Zagareb tribes of Erub and Mer. The award winning Bakir and Bi is Jillian’s first published book, one of two winners of the 2012 Black&write! Fellowship.  Published by Magabala Books in Broome in collaboration with illustrator Tori-Jay Mordey and Black&write! Editors, Bakir and Bi reached international acclaim when it made the 2014 White Raven’s Catalogue.  It was distributed at the Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany and on display at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy. 

Jillian’s poems Descendant, Woman and Mabo was Highly Commended by the Judges of the 2018 Oodgeroo Noonuccal Indigenous Poetry Prize and published in Overland Journal.
